What are you currently reading?
I started up Rob Chernow’s Alexander Hamilton last night, and despite its 800 pages I think it’ll be a quick read. Historical biographies can be sluggish sometimes, but from what I’ve seen so far the writing style is really quick and engaging. I’ve also started up on The Way of Kings again. Especially in the wake of the Martin “whoops I missed more deadlines!” post… I need substitute fantasy series. I’ve already spent half my life waiting on Song of Ice and Fire titles. The masochism must end!
What did you recently finish reading?
So much! I started the year with The Color of Magic, followed it up with 1491, and then finished Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness last night. I’m still collecting my thoughts on that one, classics will do that to a person. Review should be along tomorrow.
What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m currently tangled in close to 2,000 words worth of book, so I’m not sure if I’ll finish anything in the next week. However, I have been eyeing up the copy of Persepolis sitting on my shelf at work, which would be a nice, short detour and would not break my self-imposed January rule of “don’t buy any books.”

I recently read Persepolis which was a departure for me because I rarely read memoir or graphic novels. The art is just amazing and fitted her stories perfectly.
I love all things Terry Pratchett and I’m a big fan of the Discworld. After The Colour of Magic they just keep getting better and better. I’m so glad you enjoyed it and plan to continue with the series.

I’m glad to hear you liked it. I read a decent number of graphic novels, but it’s always slipped by for some reason or another.

Haven’t read any of the books on your list but I do really want to try a Terry Pratchet. Have you read any others? I’m never really sure where to start.

I’ve only read Good Omens, which he did with Neil Gaiman. That one was really good, and a standalone I believe. The Discworld series totally intimidated me too, but “Color” is the first, and there are all sorts of suggested reading orders posted online that I’ll definitely be making use of!

Last person I spoke to advised me to skip the first couple of disc world but I find it weird starting partway through a series. Maybe I should try a standalone 🙂

The last novel I read was The Martian, in October, though for most of last year I was trying to read the second book in the The Infernal Devices series, and still haven’t given up on that. I liked the first one, and I loved Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series, so I am a bit puzzled I have had difficulty getting into Clockwork Prince. Actually, I know, in part, it’s just a matter of prioritizing. So this year I’ve set my first reading goal ever. It felt silly because I’ve been an avid reader all my life. But in recent years my reading has shifted to too much online and few novels. So my goal for 2016 is 12 novels. I know it sounds wimpy, but in 2015 I think I read maybe 3 novels, so it will be a great improvement!
So right now I’m reading All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Maybe next I’ll finally get into Clockwork Prince.
