Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly book meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This Week’s Topic : Spring TBR
Spring is here! Sort of! It actually showed up in the blustery north for a few days last week. Hell, I’d even say it skipped right over spring for a few days in there while we hit 70 degrees. Bust out the swim suits!
Of course it’s back in the 30s again now. Low 40s if we’re lucky– that strange weather point where you get rain rather than snow but you just really, really don’t want that sort of wet cold soaking you through. It’s the pits.
Though the weather is indecisive my reading order has been a little more focused. Shame my reading time is just being diced to pieces this month though. At least Spring lasts until June technically, so I’m pretty sure I’ll get all of these done by then and then some, since I’ve surely forgotten several things…
- Persuasion by Jane Austen
- Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
- Fragile Things by Neil Gaiman
- Bring up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel
- Essex Country by Jeff Lemire
- Nimona by Noelle Stevenson
- S by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst
- 1493 by Charles C. Mann
- The Magicians by Lev Grossman
- The Invention of Nature by Andrea Wulf
Many of these I’ve already talked about at length, especially since a few have been on the TBR for quite a while. Some will be far easier than others (like the graphic novels) and several satisfy some part of a book challenge that I’m doing (like Salinger and Austen).
A few I’m a little afraid of- S in particular will be a challenge. I got my copy recently on a pledge to read it along with some coworkers and it looks to be on a completely different plane of bizarre. I’m also going to need to be in a right frame of mind to start 1493 and The Invention of Nature. I’m finishing up some non-fiction right now and my brain just isn’t deal with it as well as it normally does.
Anyway, maybe I’ll actually be able to read some of these outside soon on the newly stained deck that I toiled over. Work with me weather, please?
So what’s on your TBR? Have anything that’s been on the list for a million years? Planning on just hitting up the store or library and winging it? Let me hear all about it!
i have got 10 new books just sitting on my bookshelf..!

Do yourself a favor with S – read it one chapter at a time. Read a chapter, then go back and read the notes around that chapter. My Spring TBR

Good to know! We’ve been trying to figure out what the best way to read would be, there’s so much in there!

Its also not a bad idea to note exactly where each piece of paper is located too, in case you drop it and crap goes everywhere.

I loved Nimona. And The Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books; I keep a copy in my glove compartment just in case I need something to read, LOL.

I have Nimona just sitting on my desk right now and it is so hard to not spend the rest of the day reading it! Stupid actual work that I have to do!

I don’t really remember The Magicians, but I read it. The TV show is amazing, though!

I started S when it came out a few years ago – excellent premise. But I didn’t have time to dedicate to it – I was dipping in and out – and the book really required my full focus. I hope to pick it back up again this year. It was very intriguing! Thanks for stopping by my TTT!

I really enjoyed the Magicians! I have the last book in the series but I haven’t got around to reading it yet.

I have been watching the show and just got to a point where I can’t wait weeks to know what happens. Must read and spoil for myself!

I’m glad to hear the show is good! I don’t have the Syfy channel right now but I look forward to watching it when I can!

Yes! Persuasion. I love this book so much! Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger is also a book I want to read eventually. I just need a chance. I have a huge TBR. Lol. I am getting into classics a lot more now.

I’ve somehow never read Persuasion or Northanger Abbey, gotta remedy that this year 🙂

Oh lordy. You’re gonna read ‘Cather in the Rye’? Well. Good luck. *salutes*

I somehow never had to read it in school, and it’s one of my husbands favorites. Might as well give it a shot?

Ugh. I would’ve preferred not having to read it in school. Though, at least it was a gruesome or outlandish as some of the other books I was forced to read in school. CITR was more… dull. Though, perhaps it will be more your cup of tea? ^.^

Yeah it seems to be really polarizing. I know people who either love it or hate it and I have no idea which side I’ll fall on until I try!

Several of these are on my eventual to-read list, but I have read and loved Nimona! It’s really fantastic, especially if you already enjoy graphic novels as a genre. One of my favorites.

I really liked The Catcher in the Rye. The narrator was a bit complicated, and annoying at times, but it’s a great book, I think! 🙂

Great post! I have S on my TBR. I’ve had it on there for awhile now, but hopefully I’ll one day get around to reading it.

It sounds like quite a few people have it laying around!

S sounds like a massive undertaking. Good luck! Nimona and Bring Up the Bodies are both fantastic books, although in wildly different ways, and I hope you like them.
Thanks for visiting my TTT!

Oooo! I’ve been wanting to read Nimona for a while now but I haven’t been able to get my hands on a copy yet. The Magicians is also one of my favorite books. I hope you get to it soon and enjoy it!

This is unusual — I’ve actually read the first three on your list, most recently Persuasion. My TTT

NIMONA! You already know my feels about that book. So. good. I might have to actually buy it just in case I ever want to read it again (which I definitely do). I, too, have Fragile Things on my list of things to eventually get to. I just know that it’s probably going to tug at a few heartstrings, so I’m waiting on it. Also, good luck to you in the reading of Catcher in the Rye. It was (is?) one of my favorite books of my youth, but I’m afraid to revisit it because everyone keeps telling me I won’t like it anymore. Awesome list and happy reading!

The Magicians has long been on my to read list and The Catcher in the Rye is one of those books that blurs in my memory, but I remember loving in high school.
