This Week’s Topic :  10 Books every [x] should read.

Comics and graphics novels can be absolutely fantastic reads, telling stories that are personal, or bizarre, or fantastic, or full of emotion. Or all of those things at once.

This list is looking at the more fictional side- the superheroes and fantasies that are different from the more introspective, semi-autobiographical works.*

Fairy tales? Mysterious figures? Space battles? Superpowers? We’ve got ’em.

  • Saga – A family trying to survive amidst a galaxy-wide war. Also, dues with televisions for faces.
  • Fables – All your favorite fairy tale characters are living in exile in New York. It’s Once Upon a Time but about 100 times better.
  • Y: The Last Man – An event kills off all men on earth- except for Yorick.
  • Watchmen – Superheroes are being killed- who is doing it?
  • Batman : Year One – The famed heroes origins- masterfully done.
  • Hawkeye – The life of an Avenger on his down time- boring, right?
  • Nimona – Science! Shapeshifters! Villains! Comedy!
  • Runaways – What happens when the children of super-powered parents discover an evil conspiracy?
  • 300 – The completely bonkers take on a historical battle.
  • 100 Bullets – What would you do if you get get no-strings-attached revenge?

*otherwise I’d just be talking about Blankets and Persepolis over and over again.
