WWW Wednesday is a book meme run by Taking on a World of Words.www

Each week we’re asked three questions –

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

What are you currently reading?

Goodness, May is already half over? I feel like I’ve hardly read anything. Granted, I expected this to happen. Classes are more difficult, running is eating up more of my time. The days of reading 11 books a month might be over! For a little bit at least.

Anyway, I’m now well into Volume I, Part 3 with War and Peace and still really enjoying it. We haven’t gotten to the long philosophy passages yet, so it’s all drama and action at this point.

I’m also making some small movement through Fragile Things. I’m not sure if short stories are really my textual mode of choice. I linger with them for way too long.

It’s also been a while since I picked up any non-fiction, so I’m digging into Atomic Accidents by Jim Mahaffey. I’ve gotten through maybe 10% of it, but so far it’s incredibly interesting.

What did you recently finish reading?

The Reckoners series is done! I have finished a series! At one point I had 9 different ones going, and I always feel compelled to finish them, so it feels good to whittle that list down in order to pick up new ones. Calamity was probably my least favorite of the group, but still an entertaining and quick read. I feel like I need some big kid Sanderson now though.

I also finished The Reflections of Queen Snow White which was a very interesting take on the familiar fairy tale, and what takes place after “happily ever after.” I liked it quite a bit, and devoured most of it in one sitting.

Reviews for both will be popping up sometime this week.

What do you think you’ll read next?

More War and Peace. I’ll be on to Volume II by this weekend. Perhaps I’ll treat myself by watching the first bit of the BBC miniseries. I don’t want to get ahead though, I hate spoiling myself.

I’m also planning on picking up… at some point before the month ends… Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw, Terry Pratchett’s Sourcery, and J.L. Gribble’s Steel Victory.

I supposed the one good thing about having less time to read in a month that it makes sticking to your “don’t buy any books” pledge far easier.
