What are you currently reading?It seems 4/20 appropriate that I am now officially 100 pages from finishing Infinite Jest. Take that you drug addicted tennis prodigies! Anyway, the technical end date for Infinite Winter is May 2nd, but I should be done before then. Feels good man.
I’m also picking through the stories of Fragile Things at the rate of maybe 1 a day. There are quite a few so it’s a process, albeit an enjoyable one. It’s nice to have something to pick up quick during those very short downtimes… like Hockey intermissions.
What did you recently finish reading?
I finished The Catcher in the Rye in a breeze, and ending up enjoying it far, far more than I expected to. Review is up for that one if you need more thoughts on that I suppose.
How to be a Woman is also now residing on the “completed” shelf. Review isn’t done yet, mostly because I have some mixed feelings. I’m trying to reconcile how funny it was with how contradictory some of her arguments were.
What do you think you’ll read next?
I have a couple of things – Firefight, the next book in the Reckoners series by Sanderson is sitting in front of me.
I also have Good Omens which is a re-read for my book club that I still have a few weeks to work with.
And I have Mort for my self-inflicted one-a-month Discworld read.
Annnnd I have a few author-sent titles for review. Lots of books!

I think self-inflicting a Discworld book on yourself once a month is brilliant 🙂 A bit like self-inflicting a bar of chocolate on yourself 😉
I’m looking forward to your review of the Moran now. I haven’t read either of her books because I suspect I might find them both funny and infuriating!

Yeah its definitely a good thing to do! I’m hoping to get the Moran review done tonight, but yeah, it was a weird mix of emotions in that one.

I can’t believe Good Omens wasn’t on my tbr list already! Thanks for the reminder! 🙂 I really want to read more of the Discworld novels, but there are so many other books on my ever-growing tbr list, too… Maybe if I read one for every four books I’ve read?

That’s why I’m trying the 1 a month plan. It’ll take a few years, but most are short enough that I can get through them in one lazy Saturday. I can work on the series but still have ample time for everything else!

I wish I could do the same, but it would take me several days still. I think I’ll try it anyway, not having read this series feels like too big a gap!

These aren’t my usual kind of reads but I have read Catcher in the Rye and wasn’t overly impressed but I think that’s down to an age thing 🙂

Yeah I wasn’t sure how I’d like “Catcher”, since I’m apparently way older than most first time readers of that one. It certainly seems to be a polarizing book!

I am hoping to read How To Be A Woman by the end of the month. I’ve seen a mixed bag of reviews so I’m interested to see what I will make of it. Catcher in the Rye is also on my tbr and I still feel unsure of when I’ll read it.

I like that you’re referring to the Discworld one-a-month as self-inflicted. Some of those books are certainly more enjoyable than others.

Glad you loved your recent reads. Hear hear a Discworld a day (or a month maybe) keeps the blues away.
I’ve been seeing a couples of bloggers reading Catcher for the first time. It’s certainly getting different reactions. I didn’t liked it as much when I was a teenager, ironically, and grew to appreciate it much better when I got older. I suggest you read Perks of Being a Wallflower or Forgive me Leonard Peacock for similar angsty reads. They’re pretty wonderful as well!

I have not read either of those two that you suggested, though I know several people who adored “Perks.” I’ll have to pick it up at some point!

Good Omens is one of my favourite books. And Mort is one of my favourite Discworld novels. I love the idea of self-inflicting them on yourself each month 🙂 Terry Pratchett was a genius!

Have you read How to Build a Girl? I’ve heard it’s pretty much the same as How to be a Woman so not sure whether to read or not.

I have not read that one, though I believe it is supposed to be part of a fiction series rather than a memoir. (Though it is also based on her life growing up?) I might pick it up at some point down the road just to check it out.
